About Justice Or Mercy

Justice Or Mercy started out as a conversation held in January 2022, between me and one of my best friends, my brother in Christ, Destin. We often have conversations within WhatsApp, as we live in different states, shout out to the voice messaging feature!

The conversation stemmed from a question about accountability and if he felt it was a lost art. He agreed that accountability is no longer applied nowadays because people are afraid of judgement.

Why? Here are some possible thoughts that may occur in ones head:

"Who are you to judge me?". "Do you have authority over me and you're telling me that I'm wrong?". "No one here is perfect so stop trying to be."

But that's a whole other topic.

Through this conversation my brother said something that was profound to me. He said, "The one who can cast the stone, can forgive..."

The casting of stones is judgement (Justice) and the forgiving is (Mercy).

Destin was saying that even though we are not Jesus, we're not perfect, holding someone accountable shouldn't stop us from using sound judgement when one of your brothers or sisters is behaving recklessly. And no, we can't cast judgement as in condemnation, but we can forgive the actions done from reckless behavior.

So I took that statement and ran with it.

I didn't realize that when Jesus was being confronted by the Pharisees about a women caught in adultery, (John 8 1-11) reference to what Destin was saying, Jesus was the only who could cast the stone on her.

Jesus was the only perfect (e.i. sinless) person there to judge her rightly and give her Justice but instead he gave her Mercy and forgave her.

That is Justice Or Mercy

In the bigger picture, Justice has been served and Mercy has been given through the Gospel of Jesus by all those who believe and follow Him.
